About Me

Thaakiera Ackerdien, that's the name I was given the day I was brought into this world, much to my own disappointment. My parents probably hoped I'd be a doctor or something worthwhile. To their disappointment, I turned out to be the creative sought, a writer to be exact.

I have always loved writing. Ever since I was thrust into the magical world of being literate, I have always excelled at it. It's probably the only thing I'm truly talented at to be quite honest. For these reasons and a tad bit of my own insanity, I have decided to study journalism. I am currently in my third year and things are going pretty well if I do say so myself.

Prior to the start of my student life, I was a high school student who didn't quite know what she wanted out of life. I applied to all sorts of random courses at universities and for some reason got into the University of the Western Cape, for Computer Science of all things. As you can imagine, a field totally void of creativity caused my mind to have its own great depression. This ended with me eventually dropping out of UWC and taking a year off to "find myself" as they say.

Throughout all of this, I did eventually realize that the only thing really keeping me going was my writing. I wrote journal entry upon entry, spilling my thoughts onto paper and eventually decided to take a gamble at this writing thing. I got in by some miracle and the rest is history.
Today I am a proud writer, of fiction and non-fiction, even if I haven't published any of them, and I look forward to my "starving artist" career as a writer.
